Mpazaiou Tower

It was built during the 17th century and was used as a monastery of the Saint Cross. Nowadays this place hosts a number of folk activities and fares like the popular Festival of Naxos.

Kouros Giants

There are two sculptures of Kouros, one near Flerio and one near the village of Apollon, at the entrance of an ancient quarry. The first Kouros is about 6.4 meters and semi-finished, and was created during the 7th century BC. The second Kouros has an impressive length of 10.45 meters and was created during the 6th century BC. It is semi-finished as well and it is said that it is a sculpture of Dionysus or Apollo. 

Gyroula Archaeological Site

The archaeological site of Gyroula is located near the village of Sagri. The temple was entirely made of white marble, while the sanctuary was dedicated to the worship of the goddess Demetra and Apollo. In 530 BC, during the tyranny of Lyddaeus, a double Ionic temple was built in the area. The archaic temple became Christian, and in the years of Justinian took its place as a three-aisled basilica. Its restoration is now completed, and it operates as a museum.

Venetian Towers

They are associated with the period of feudalism and are built with stone from Naxos, without any coating, which makes blend well with the landscape. The most important towers are the ones of Bellonia, near the village of Galanado, the towers of Gracia and of Markopolitis, in Tragea, Frangopoulos in Kourounochori, and Barotsi, in the village of Filoti.


Apeiranthos is considered as mountain settlement, well known for its unique beauty. It is consisted of cobbled streets, arches, Venetian towers and stone houses, that are preserved through thousands of years.
